We lament the murder of Asad Shah, who was killed in Glasgow because of his faith. Nobody has the right to adjudicate on how individuals and groups interpret their faiths. Vigilantism is against the basic principles of Islam and the rule of law. Furthermore, no citizen has the right to take the law into his or her own hands. This undermines the foundations of the pluralist, democratic, equitable and just society we have struggled to build in the UK. Britain is a multi-faith and multi-cultural country and long may it remain so.
