British Muslims for Secular Democracy (BMSD) condemns the attack, which took place in London on the 22nd March 2017 resulting in the loss of life and injuries to several members of the public and officers of the Metropolitan Police.
Investigations are ongoing but the Metropolitan Police suspects the attack was inspired by international terrorism. We believe this is a time for showing solidarity towards each other as individual members of the public and as communities, thereby defeating the aims of the terrorists to divide the society along religious and ideological lines.
We wish to extend our condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured from the physical and mental trauma they have suffered.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Metropolitan Police officers who responded to the attack in a swift and professional manner as well as all other services such as the NHS staff who helped manage the situation in the presence of potential danger whilst the situation was still unfolding.
Dr Shaaz Mahboob of BMSD said, “British public have faced off previous attempts to instil fear and discord amongst the various communities that live together peacefully, and will continue to do so. It is vital for all of us to remain vigilant and identify any potential extremist elements within our communities, who may wish to exploit this terrorist attack to their advantage, whether from an Islamist or far right perspective”.
